Kanye West drags known racists to dinner in Mar-a-Lago – Trump plays the clueless

Shortly after Donald Trump announced that he wanted to run again for US President, a dinner with Kanye West and right-wing extremist Nick Fuentes got him into trouble. But Trump finds an explanation – in the usual manner on social media.
A dinner with consequences: Ex-US President Donald Trump has justified himself for a dinner with rapper Kanye West. According to reports, far-right nationalist Nick Fuentes also took part. Trump wrote on his self-founded platform “Truth Social” that he did not know Fuentes.
The background is a dinner at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in the US state of Florida last Tuesday. According to reports, West, who now calls himself Ye, brought 24-year-old Fuentes with him. Both have spread anti-Semitic hate speech in the past and are therefore criticized.

West posted a video on Twitter after the dinner, claiming Trump was “impressed” with Fuentes. Fuentes spreads anti-Semitic conspiracy theories and regularly makes racist comments. The anti-racism organization Anti-Defamation League calls him a “white supremacist”.
“White supremacy” describes the ideology of white supremacy. The online event organizer also opposes women’s rights and discriminates against the LGBTQI community. The English abbreviation stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans people, queer and intersex people.
Trump did not deny Fuente’s participation in the meal – but did not explicitly confirm it either. West called him about dinner, he wrote on Truth Social. “Shortly after, he unexpectedly showed up with three of his friends I didn’t know about.” Other people were also present at the meal, Trump wrote. The Republican himself is also known for spreading conspiracy theories. He also repeatedly expressed anti-trans and agitated against minorities.
The news portal “Axios”, citing an unnamed source, wrote that Trump seemed “very impressed” at Fuentes’ dinner. The two talked about the presidential election, among other things. “To be honest, I don’t think the President knew who the hell (Fuentes) was,” Axios quoted the source as saying. CNN, also citing a source familiar with the dinner, reported that Fuentes was a guest of West and not invited by Trump.
How Trump and West experienced the dinner
Referring to West, Trump wrote: “Anyway, we got along well, he expressed no anti-Semitism.” Trump added, “Why wouldn’t I agree to meet him?” The topic of the meal was therefore West’s plans with a view of the White House. In 2020 he had already applied for the office of US President – but due to missed registration deadlines he did not make it onto the ballot in most states.
He advised him not to run for president under any circumstances, Trump continued. West, on the other hand, said in the video published on Twitter that he had Trump suggested that the ex-president could run as his vice president in the 2024 election. Trump yelled at him at the table and made him understand that he thought West was going to lose, West said. The ex-president, on the other hand, described the dinner as “uneventful”.
The 76-year-old ex-president announced just over a week ago that he wanted to run again as a presidential candidate for the Republicans in 2024. West (45) had already indicated in 2020 that he wanted to start the race again in 2024. Most recently, he posted videos on Twitter with the words “Ye 24”. The rapper was once one of the few stars to publicly speak out for Trump. Because of anti-Semitic statements, the sporting goods manufacturer Adidas recently terminated its cooperation with him.
