Donald Trump and his lawyer are said to be paying nearly $1 million for unjustified lawsuits. A federal judge ruled against the ex-US President. The justification is in itself.

A federal judge has ordered ex-US President Donald Trump and his attorney Alina Habba to pay nearly $1 million. The ruling stems from “frivolous lawsuits” against nearly three dozen of Trump’s perceived political enemies, including Hillary Clinton and former FBI Director James B. Comey. “This case should never have been filed,” wrote US federal judges Donald M Middlebrooksaccording to the New York Times in a 46-page judgment. There were no chances of success from the start. “No sane attorney would have filed the lawsuits. None of the counts, which were intended for a political purpose, contained any discernible legal claim.”

Trump is a sophisticated litigator who repeatedly uses the courts to exact revenge on political opponents, Judge Middlebrooks wrote, according to the newspaper. “He is the master of strategic misuse of the court process and cannot be considered a litigant blindly following the advice of a lawyer. He was well aware of the ramifications of his actions.”

Judge dismisses Donald Trump

According to Judge Middlebrooks, the former US President filed a lawsuit in bad faith, causing needless harm to the 31 individuals and organizations being sued, including the Democratic National Committee. The lawsuits had political purposes and also contributed to “undermining public confidence in the courts,” the judge said, according to the US newspaper. “The ongoing pattern of abuse of the courts by Mr. Trump and his attorneys undermines the rule of law, portrays judges as partisans and drains resources from those who have actually suffered legal harm,” he wrote.

In the lawsuit, which Middlebrooks dismissed last year, Trump accused Clinton of attempted fraud in the 2016 presidential election. He accused his then-rival of wanting to convince the public that he had cooperated with Russia in his election campaign and demanded $70 million in damages. Clinton lost to Trump in the 2016 presidential election.
