Djokovic was ‘heartbroken’ and worries about his ex-coach’s mental health

Novak Djokovic was “heartbroken” for Boris Becker, his coach for three years between 2013 and 2016, when the German was sentenced to two and a half years in prison. The former world number 1 and six-time grand slam winner between 1985 and 1996 was sentenced to two and a half years in prison on Friday by British justice for financial offenses related to his personal bankruptcy.

“I was heartbroken for him. He is a long-time friend, he was my coach for three years, he is someone I consider close and who has contributed a lot to my success in my career. (…) As a friend, I am super sad for him, ”said the Serb.

Djoko worries about Becker’s mental health

“I just hope that he will get through this period (…) and that when he gets out of prison, he can live his life, I don’t know if you can say normal, because it’s obvious that life changes for someone who goes to jail, especially that long, detailed the Djoker. I don’t know how things will turn out for him, I’m praying for him and I hope he’s okay in terms of mental health, because that’s going to be the hardest part.

The 54-year-old German, who has lived in the United Kingdom since 2012, was found guilty in early April of having hidden 2.5 million pounds sterling (3 million euros) in assets and loans for avoid paying his debts after being declared personal bankrupt in 2017.
