The emergency shelters are full of recognized refugees who should have been looking for their own apartments long ago. Most would also love to move out, but they hardly have a chance on the market.

In fact, Sayed Musawi and his wife Sediqe could have lived in their own apartment for a long time. Both are recognized as refugees, he works full-time as a tiler, she as a seamstress. Nevertheless, the couple from Afghanistan still lives in the refugee accommodation in Gräfelfing, they were the first to move there in 2015. Here they live in a room, they share the kitchen with other residents. When Sayed Musawi’s brother comes to visit from far away, he sleeps in the car unless it’s winter. Overnight guests are not allowed in the accommodations.
