District of Munich – First case of bird flu – District of Munich

A first case of bird flu has occurred in the district of Munich. According to the district office, avian influenza, HPAI for short, has been confirmed in a swan from the Ismaning municipality by the national reference laboratory at the Friedrich Loeffler Institute in Greifswald. The Munich district office currently classifies the risk of the virus finding its way into livestock and domestic poultry populations as increased and therefore urges pet owners to exercise caution. These should absolutely adhere to the existing hygiene and biosecurity measures.

The district office issued a corresponding general decree for the protection of animals last December. It can be viewed on the district’s homepage (www.landkreis-muenchen.de) in the Regulations section. There it is regulated, among other things, that unauthorized persons may not have access to stables and animal owners must wear protective clothing. Failure to comply with the rules will result in a fine. Since autumn 2021, isolated cases of avian influenza in wild birds and livestock have been reported in Bavaria; A first case of avian influenza in poultry was detected in December in the district of Erding.

As the Munich district office further reports, a stable requirement for all poultry must be considered if other infected birds are found in the district. All poultry farmers should therefore prepare housing for their animals now and comply with the registration obligation. According to current knowledge, there is no health risk for humans.
