Some walkers may have wondered why chainsaws now and then roar around recreational areas. The reason for the commitment is that the district of Munich has again sent workers to take care of the annual tree care. The recreation areas at Feringasee, Heimstettener See, Unterschleißheimer See and Unterföhringer See and the adjacent forest areas are affected by the work. The district office announced that the measures were necessary in order to ensure a safe, healthy and aesthetic stock of trees and shrubs. The work started in December and is expected to last in several stages until the end of February.
This year, certain shrub stands will be severely cut in order to rejuvenate them. According to the authority, a strong pruning stimulates a strong new growth of the bushes. Any gaps that have arisen in the shrub stands will be closed again in the course of the coming vegetation period. Some trees that have been badly damaged by rotting or wood-decomposing fungi have to be felled. Eschen are particularly badly affected in the northern district of Eschen, which, for safety reasons, can only be preserved for a short time after a strong ash shoot death infestation. Also this year old rhizomes will be removed from the lawns and leveled.
According to the District Office, a new population of trees and bushes is being used through natural regeneration to maintain a sizeable population of trees and bushes at the bathing lakes and in the forest areas. In addition, substitute plantings with native trees are planned. During the cutting and clearing work, it is to be expected that short-term road closures will be necessary. There are vehicles on the way and clippings are stored in the recreation area. The authority asks for your understanding.
