District of Munich: chainsaws at the lakes – District of Munich

On behalf of the district of Munich, workers are again taking care of trees and shrubs in the recreation areas in February. According to the district office, these are necessary to continue to ensure a “safe, healthy and aesthetic stock of trees and shrubs”. The work is taking place on Lake Feringasee, Lake Heimstetten, Lake Unterschleißheim, Lake Deininger Weiher, Dürnsteiner Bridge (hiking car park) and Lake Unterföhring and the adjacent forest areas.

According to the district office, over-aged and fragile shrubs in particular are being rejuvenated to prevent them from collapsing in snow and rain. With the strong pruning, a strong new growth of the shrubs should also be stimulated. Any gaps in the shrub population would be closed again in the course of the coming growing season.

Trees that have been severely damaged by storms, rot or wood-decaying fungi are felled on the occasion for safety reasons. In the Munich district, ash trees are particularly affected. Native shrubs are planted at the same time for natural regeneration and biodiversity. The work should be completed by the end of February, the clean-up work can last until mid-March.
