Dispute over pension package II: SPD plans threaten to fail – what’s behind it – politics

As if the traffic light didn’t have enough trouble these days, it has to deal with pensions in the Bundestag this Friday. On the agenda is the first reading of the so-called pension package II. Behind this name lies one of the SPD’s central election promises: pensions should increase more than previously planned. “We now have to tackle the pension package quickly. “That’s what we agreed on,” says Martin Rosemann, the social policy spokesman for the SPD in the Bundestag. For the FDP, this is one of the biggest pain points in the coalition agreement. Because higher pensions mean higher taxes for employees and companies. The group therefore does not want to accept the law as it is.
