According to the Berlin Zoo, there have been no further confirmed infections in animals since a bird flu case about two weeks ago. The zoo announced on Wednesday in Berlin that the results of a first round of testing had not resulted in any other positive cases. Some of the test results are still pending. Further test series are still necessary, it said.

The zoo will remain closed. First of all, it is about getting an exceptional permit in order to avert the mandatory killing of the entire bird population in such cases: “That is our biggest request first of all,” said zoo director Andreas Knieriem.

The bird affected by the virus, a hammerhead, died on November 13, according to the zoo. After laboratory confirmation of avian influenza, the zoo was evacuated on November 18. The popular excursion destination has since been closed to visitors.
