A rumor about two men who are said to have chased a five-year-old in their car caused a stir in the Swabian town of Dillingen. The boy rode his bike home from the playground on Tuesday and was approached from a distance by two strange men, the police said on Thursday. Because he didn’t understand what they wanted, it was said that he simply drove on. The child then told his family about this incident at home. The boy’s older sister posted a warning on social networks that the men had followed her brother and apparently tried to kidnap him. “That then became a sure-fire success,” said a spokeswoman for the Dillinger police. Rumors spread in the district that the two unknown men were looking for children to kidnap. Even in a primary school, the students were warned by announcement not to go to the playground, said the police spokeswoman. When the alleged kidnapping attempt was reported to the police the next day, the officers questioned the allegedly persecuted boy. The five-year-old then presented the incident far less dramatically than the claims on social networks, it said. “We still do not know what the two men wanted and whether they even existed,” said the police spokeswoman. All questioning of possible witnesses had come to nothing.
