The next game for the DFB team is in the Nation League. The national coach comments before the duel with Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The German national team and national coach Julian Nagelsmann start the next Nations League games with personnel concerns. Before the duels with Bosnia-Herzegovina on Friday and against the Netherlands next Monday, seven players are missing from the European Championships: Marc-André ter Stegen, Niclas Füllkrug, Kai Havertz, Robin Koch, David Raum, Benjamin Henrichs and Jamal Musiala were there.
Alexander Nübel will therefore be in goal against Bosnia. It will be his international debut for the VfB Stuttgart goalkeeper. The national coach also announced a surprise at the press conference. Gladbach’s Tim Kleindienst and Mainz’s Jonathan Burkardt can also hope for their first game in the DFB jersey. “One of the two will start,” said Nagelsmann.
The 37-year-old also commented on Bernd Leno’s rejection. “He made demands that I couldn’t meet. I showed him an interesting perspective, but he wasn’t so happy with that.” You can read which tip Nagelsmann threw after Leno in the ticker.
7:03 p.m.: That’s it. The press conference is over.
6:59 p.m.: What kind of tactics does Nagelsmann expect from Bosnia? “We have prepared certain things that I won’t reveal now,” he says. You are prepared for some surprises, but you then have to react to others during the game. “I’m excited and looking forward to it!”
When asked about his Stuttgart teammate Demirovic, Nübel said: “I hope it’s an advantage that I know him.” He has a good finish, so he hopes to be able to predict some shots well.
6:57 p.m.: “It would be unfair to single out one,” says Nagelsmann when asked about the Bosnian team’s best player. But Edin Džeko had an impressive career and adapted his game well over time.
6:52 p.m.: A question about Nagelsmann’s expectations of the goalkeepers and his attitude to Bernd Leno’s rejection. Nagelsmann: “In general, I don’t expect any different things than what they do at the club, which is why they are here now.” There is a footballing approach, but if that doesn’t work, the ball can also be hit forward. “Uefa’s European Championship analysis shows that teams are better off where the goalkeeper holds one,” he says with a smile.
Leno was not satisfied with the medium-term perspective that he offered him on the phone. In the end, everyone has to know for themselves whether they want to join the national team. “In general, I said I wouldn’t close the door, but it hasn’t opened any further,” said Nagelsmann.
6:49 p.m.: Nagelsmann is asked about Klopp’s new position at Red Bull and what he thinks of the criticism about it. He congratulates Red Bull on their commitment and Klopp on his new job. It is a “super interesting job that Jürgen will fill with a lot of life.” He was informed about this early on. He doesn’t know about a possible DFB clause in Klopp’s contract as his successor. But he knows Oliver Mintzlaff well and “cannot imagine that the clause exists.”
6:47 p.m.: Nagelsmann is asked about his time together with the Bosnian Bikcacic in Hoffenheim. He has always been an aggressive guy and he is happy that he has had such a long career and is looking forward to seeing him tomorrow.
6:46 p.m.: Will we see more than one debutant in the starting line-up like Kleindienst or Burkardt in the attack? Nagelsmann says: “You can assume that you will see one of them in the starting line-up.”
6:43 p.m.: “Of course I heard that a few Bosnian players are also injured and of course I know the players too,” said Nagelsmann in response to a question about the Bosnians’ situation. But injuries are normal.
