Scotland

“The National”: Germany stormed out of the starting blocks and celebrated the biggest opening victory at a European Championship. The hosts showed their best side in the Allianz Arena and won 5-1 on home soil.”

“The Scotsman”: “Scotland’s euro bubble bursts in Munich. This night of utter recklessness raises big questions.”

“The Herald”: “Germany’s prospects of winning EURO 2024 on home soil were not exactly optimistic. It was difficult to understand why this was the case. Their passing, movement and finishing were breathtaking. Scotland were completely outmatched from start to finish.”

Italy

“Sport Newspaper”: “This Germany is scary. A spectacle and five goals against a non-existent Scotland. Mamma mia, what a Germany. The home team is playing great at “their” European Championship. A rain of goals on poor Scotland and a great goal show from Nagelsmann’s champions.”

“Corriere dello Sports“: “Germany unleashed. They gave Scotland five goals to start the European Championship.”

The Republic“: “The 2024 European Championship begins with a show from the home team. A dream debut for Nagelsmann’s national team, which is already three goals ahead after the first half.”

Switzerland

“View”: “Germans take off Bravehearts’ kilt”

“NZZ”: “The Germans dominate the opening game at will. The hosts make a statement right at the start of the tournament.”

Austria

“Kronen-Zeitung”: “We would like to become European champions, for the fourth time in history, for the first time since 1996 – and Germany has now successfully overcome the first of seven hurdles on the way to the title!”

“Courier”: “Goal festival at the start of the European Championship: Germany beats Scotland”

“Austria”: “German shooters celebrate their first EURO party. The DFB eleven has made a sensational start to the European Championship at home. Julian Nagelsmann’s team shot Scotland out of the stadium in Munich with a 5-1 win in the opening match.”

England

“The Sun”: “Shower for Scotland. The Tartan Army is silenced as the rampant hosts pull off a colossal victory to secure a sensational Euro 2024 win.”

France

“The Team”: “It is of course still too early to judge whether the German team will experience the summer fairytale that it has been hoping for so much since the 2006 World Cup, the last tournament on home soil, but in any case it has written a first chapter on this Friday evening that looks very much like it.”

“The World”: “A true demonstration by the German team at the start of their European Championship. That’s what you call a successful start! Serious, precise and hardworking, the Germans left the Scots no chance.”

“RMC Sport”: “That’s what you call a successful start. Germany, which is considered an outsider for overall victory at “its” home European Championship, did not let itself be unsettled in its first match against Scotland on Friday in Munich.”

“The Parisian”: “The DFB team is starting the 2024 European Championship with a steamroller. Against a modest opposition, Julian Nagelsmann’s men showed the extent of their offensive power. After 90 minutes that seemed like a concert, the German team enjoyed the game and gained confidence.”

Spain

“Brand”: “Germany, what a machine! In 45 minutes they destroyed Scotland thanks to their attacking spirit and the leadership of Kroos. Not even the usual fear of the hosts in the opening game could stop the German machine with Toni Kroos and the horsepower of Musiala, Wirtz and Havertz.”

“Ace”: “Two devils on the loose in Munich. Musiala and 21-year-old Wirtz were the heroes of the German team’s successful debut at the European Championships. Anyone who thought the hosts were not ready for their European Championship is wrong.”
