DFB Cup: Leverkusen loses against Karlsruhe – Sport

Bayer Leverkusen slipped into a first sporting crisis in just eleven days and only plays in two out of three competitions. The Bundesliga team was also eliminated by a big mistake by goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky with a 1: 2 (0: 1) in the second round duel of the DFB Cup against second division Karlsruher SC. Bayer has been waiting for a win after a convincing start to the season in four games.

Lucas Cueto (4th) shocked Bayer with an early dusting in front of 13,060 spectators. Jeremie Frimpong (54th) equalized for Leverkusen. After a blackout by Captain Hradecky, Kyoung-rok Choi (63rd) let the KSC cheer again after five cup defeats against first division clubs.

Seoane rotated to six positions, involuntarily especially on the offensive. The strikers Lucas Alario (muscular problems) and Patrik Schick (torn ankle ligaments) as well as midfielder Karim Bellarabi (torn thigh) were injured after the 2-2 on Sunday in the derby in Cologne. Due to the personnel shortage, the 16-year-old talent Iker Bravo was in the Werkself squad.

The inexplicably weak second half in Cologne, in which Leverkusen had carelessly gambled away a 2-0 lead, was promptly followed by the next blow in the neck for the Rhinelander. Hradecky let a deflected header from Philipp Hofmann ricochet forward, Cueto netted. Leverkusen reacted and equalized twice. Moussa Diaby (10th) and Amine Adli (12th) moved very gently, completely free-standing. Bayer continued to press against a very low-level KSC. Nadiem Amiri also placed a direct decrease next to the goal (19th). Karlsruhe was waiting for counterattacks, which they received again and again. To the alarm of the Bayer fans, who whistled their Werkself with whistles early on during unimaginative moments during the build-up of the game. These would have become even louder if Hofmann’s artistic side puller had not been deflected by Edmond Tapsoba (29th).

After the break, Hradecky prevented the 0: 2 (47th) with his save against a sharply kicked free kick by Marvin Wanitzek. Moments later, Diaby took the song “Try it out with Gemütlichkeit”, which was played in the BayArena at halftime, too literally and allowed KSC captain Jerome Gondorf to counterattack it completely unnecessarily. Frimpong did a lot better after the conspicuous Adli had a nice reserve. Then Hradecky made another mistake and negligently played the ball into Choi ‘s feet when he failed. Leverkusen then wanted to force extra time, Bravo (78th) missed the greatest chance to equalize one minute after being substituted on.
