In 1899, striker Andrej Kramaric saved Hoffenheim from an early break in the DFB Cup at Viktoria Köln with a double.

In the arduous 3: 2 (1: 1, 1: 1) after extra time with the brave third division club Viktoria Köln, the Croatian made the difference with his goals. TSG still has a lot of work to do before the Bundesliga kick-off on Saturday (14.08.2021) at FC Augsburg.

Hit in extra time

Kramaric (107th) redeemed the favorite with his goal in extra time. Previously, the TSG captain (28th / foul penalty) had put the Bundesliga team in the lead in regular time, which Simon Handle (33rd) made up for. In extra time, after Munas Dabburs (94th), Hoffenheim again had the lead 2-1, but Cologne countered with Christoph Greger (102nd).

Hoffenheim with personnel problems

Hoffenheim’s coach Sebastian Hoeneß had to do without ten professionals, including regular goalkeeper Oliver Baumann and the corona-infected attacker Ihlas Bebou – and that was noticeable. In front of 3,402 spectators, TSG initially had problems with the research hosts. Kramaric (11th) and Georginio Rutter (24th) approached cautiously, shortly afterwards there was a penalty for Hoffenheim: Jacob Bruun Larsen was hit on the left foot by defender Christoph Greger, referee Franz Bokop pointed to the point from the Kramaric usual safe transformed.

Victoria fearless

Viktoria, who competed without former Bundesliga professional Marcel Risse, reacted fearlessly to the deficit and equalized five minutes later with a remarkable flick from Handle. Risse had moved permanently from 1. FC Köln to the other side of the Rhine before the season and had previously held a regular place.

Janßen relies on the offensive

After the break, Cologne trainer Olaf Janßen brought two fresh offensive forces, while Hoeneß replaced Stefan Posch and Sebastian Rudy as stabilizers. That Rudy initiated a great chance for Christoph Baumgartner (64th) a few seconds after his taking in, but he failed because of keeper Moritz Nicolas. When it started to rain, TSG pushed for victory after 90 minutes, again Baumgartner (81st) lost his nerve from a perfect position. The Viktoria also tried to set offensive needle sticks again and again. In the extension, the Bundesliga side had the better end for themselves.
