Series is canceled after just one season

There will be no sequel to Dexter: New Blood. Apparently that doesn’t mean that the serial killer has no TV future at all.
In autumn 2021 and after an eight-year break, TV serial killer Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall, 52) surprisingly returned in the series sequel “Dexter: New Blood”. Although this comeback boasted strong ratings, according to a report by the TV Line site There wouldn’t be a second “New Blood” season, which in all likelihood would have revolved around Dexter’s son Harrison (Jack Alcott).
The exact reasons for this decision by US broadcaster Showtime are not given. Apparently, the decision-makers saw other possibilities to further embellish the story about the killer with a twisted code of honor as more promising. According to the report, instead of the second “New Blood” season, the report is considering further illuminating Dexter’s tragic history with a prequel series. In addition, other series ideas from the “Dexter” cosmos that are not described in more detail would float through the room, it is said.
The murderous hero
Shortly after the season finale about a year ago, showrunner Clyde Phillips “TV Line” assured “immediately to drop everything and lie down if they should me [wegen einer zweiten Staffel, Anm. d. Red.] call.” However, that decision is “solely in the hands of Showtime,” Phillips said in early 2022.
The originally eight-season series “Dexter” started in 2006 and ran until 2013. The extraordinary “hero” in it is a seemingly irreproachable forensic scientist from the Miami Metro Police Department, who hides a dark secret from his colleagues: Dexter Morgan has had a murderous lust since his earliest youth. Flashbacks tell how the boy became the so-called “Bay Harbor Butcher” and why he (primarily) only kills people who are themselves on the wrong side of the law.
