Deutschlandticket: You can discover these dream routes with regional trains

Romantic river valleys, spectacular urban landscapes or even the middle of the sea – the approximately 38,000 kilometer long rail network in Germany offers a lot of extraordinary connections that are worth traveling through.

And the best thing is: You don’t need more than 49 euros a month to experience these very special railway routes.

Deutschlandticket enables travel on dream routes

The Germany ticket is valid from May 1st. On the one hand, the offer breaks up the tariff confusion that has been common in Germany up to now – and on the other hand, it should save commuters hard cash compared to their previous monthly travelcards, which were mostly limited to a certain region. The hoped-for side effect: the ticket should encourage more people to switch to buses and trains and thus protect the climate. The Deutschlandticket is only available as a monthly terminable subscription and digitally or as a chip card and is only valid in second class.

The offer’s predecessor, the 9-euro ticket, became a real bestseller in June, July and August last year. And experience has shown that many travelers also use the flat-rate ticket for excursions and trips throughout Germany.

Ticket is valid on regional trains and regional express trains

The Deutschlandticket is valid on regional trains and regional express trains, but also on public buses, trams, S-Bahn and U-Bahn trains and in some places even on ferries. However, the use of long-distance trains such as the ICE or the Intercity as well as long-distance buses is not possible with a Deutschlandticket.

Nevertheless, even with regional trains, some considerable distances can be covered in the country (See the photo series “Through the country for nine euros a month: With these regional trains you will soon be able to make real journeys”).

But you can not only get from A to B inexpensively – on many rail routes, the journey is also the destination and the view from the train window is the actual highlight of the journey.

In the photo series above you can see ten of Germany’s most spectacular railway routes – and how you can experience them with regional trains.

Editor’s note: This series of photos was published for the first time last year when the 9-euro ticket was launched. It was comprehensively updated to mark the start of pre-sales for the Deutschlandticket.
