The single-track railway line from Munich east towards Mühldorf was opened in 1871. Since then, there will soon be a second track for the route, which has long been one of the most used commuter routes in Bavaria. Initially the Royal Bavarian State Railways were at work, then a few others, and most recently in 2013 the Federal Republic of Germany ordered its Deutsche Bahn AG to really get to work. And ten years later, the railway has now announced a celebration for this Thursday. Although not yet because of the commissioning of new tracks or because the first meters of overhead lines have already been energized, but at least: the “4th birthday” of the DB’s own “InfoCenter” is being celebrated for expansion at Mühldorfer Bahnhofplatz.
And this information center was built really quickly in 2019. At the end of May the excavator had torn away the old bicycle racks, and by the end of September a number of containers were neatly stacked there and ready for the interior work with all sorts of counters, boards and monitors. It opened almost exactly four years ago, and since then everyone has been able to find out about the status of the railway expansion at the Mühldorfer Linienstern every Thursday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Regardless of these opening times, there has also been an open-air exhibition of various noise barriers and other noise protection technology called a “technology park” there for the past two months. At the same time, the railway planners also bring their progress closer to people with events along the route. And clearly, on paper and in their computers, things are really moving forward.
The entire route to Freilassing will not be completely double-tracked and electrified by 2030. Deutsche Bahn has cashed in on this declared goal in 2022 because the year before, the then Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (CSU), in collaboration with local party friends, ordered an extra bridge for the town of Weidenbach.
In addition, the entire expansion also got caught up in the completely new “Measures Act Preparation Act”, which, according to Deutsche Bahn, delayed completion indefinitely. The information center in Mühldorf will be able to celebrate its eleventh birthday in 2030.
