Defective airbags: the scandal is growing, Citroën and Opel recall new car models

Now, 8 million vehicles are affected.

The affair of defective airbags is gaining momentum at Stellantis. The automobile group will carry out numerous additional vehicle recalls, as a precaution, either eight million vehicles in total in Europe, reveals The Parisian. However, the recall schedule has not yet been set.

The Stellantis group, owner of the Citroën brand, had already launched the recall of 530,000 C3 and DS3 models produced between 2009 and 2019, including around 245,000 in France, due to a risk of metal pieces being projected in the event of triggering of the airbag.

“Routine reminders”

This time, among the 8 million additional vehicles affected, there are notably Citroën C4, DS4s and DS5s but also cars of the brand Opel. Vehicles equipped with other types of airbags also produced by the equipment manufacturer Takata.

Simple “routine reminders”, minimizes the group. Around fifteen other manufacturers, from BMW to Seat via Audi, Ford and Toyota have already carried out similar recalls linked to Takata airbags.
