Decision for the RIP on pensions, drought in the Var and misinformation threatens

Did you miss the news this early morning? We’ve put together a recap to help you see things more clearly.

Opponents of the pension reform are once again suspended from a decision by the Elders. The Constitutional Council must decide this Wednesday on a second request for a referendum of shared initiative (RIP) made by the left. But, even if the Socialists say they are “very reasonably optimistic”, the parliamentarians of Nupes are betting more on June 8, the day of examination by the National Assembly of a bill from the Liot group aimed at repealing the reform.

While summer will only be here in 50 days, the Var is already short of water. The majority of the department was therefore placed on enhanced drought alert on Tuesday, while the coastal municipalities were placed on alert. From mid-February, the prefect had launched a “cry of alarm” and placed the majority of the department (85 municipalities) on drought alert (the second level out of four), while two municipalities – Riboux and Saint-Zacharie – were on heightened alert (the third level). But since then the situation has not improved “with very low spring rainfall, with a 75 to 80% deficit in March-April”, according to Julian Assante, project manager at the Departmental Directorate of Territories and the Sea (DDTM ). Hence the now placement of these 85 municipalities on heightened alert.

The 21st annual ranking of Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is not reassuring. Political propaganda, economic manipulation, false content generated by artificial intelligence: this 2023 edition highlights in particular the effects of disinformation on press freedom around the world. The classification is him without major change. The highest rated country is still Norway and the last is North Korea. France is 24th and gains two places. Overall, the conditions for practicing journalism are poor in 7 out of 10 countries.
