the essential
Justine Vayrac, 20, was killed on the night of October 22 to 23 after a nightclub outing. The main suspect Lucas L. is accused of having raped and strangled her before burying her near the farmhouse where he resided. Ten days after the murder, La Dépêche du Midi returns to the known elements which shed light on the course of events.

Ten days have passed since Justine Vayrac, a 20-year-old mother, was killed after an outing in the nightclub “La Charette” in Brive, in Corrèze, on the night of October 22 to 23. Since the beginning of the investigation and with the help of the confessions of the suspect Lucas L. and the testimonies of his friends, the chronology of the night of the drama becomes clearer.

A banal outing to a nightclub

Théo, a key witness in the affair, a friend of the young woman and the last person to have seen her alive, first delivered to several media the chronology of the last moments that Justine spent in the nightclub.

According to him, around 11:15 p.m. this Saturday, October 22, Justine, accompanied by four of her friends, would have gone to party at the “La Charette” establishment in Brive. Lucas L., a 21-year-old farmer, also present, would have offered a glass of champagne to the young woman who would have quickly felt nauseous and would then have gone out to take the air in the company of his friend Theo. Justine would also have confided to being “convinced that we had put something” in her drink.

Strange walk in the parking lot

From 1 a.m., the young woman, feeling no better, reportedly went back and forth between the parking lot and inside the nightclub before suggesting Theo go for a walk “because she wants to vomit”. “We meet this famous Lucas at the entrance, I see that he is getting closer to us and starting to chat with Justine, over time I see that they have known each other for a little while”, explains Théo to our colleagues.

Lucas L. would then have accompanied the two friends on their night walk. Around 4 a.m., Justine got into her car with Lucas and Theo then went back to the nightclub to continue his evening. Forty minutes later, Théo came out of the nightclub but didn’t see Justine in her car. Worried, he would then have contacted Lucas L. who would have assured him that he had gone home and that he had to be left alone because he was “in the act” with a young woman who was, according to him, not Justine .

Lucas L. disappears for three hours

Subsequently, Theo would have insisted on having the address of Lucas L. who would have refused to communicate it to him. Sunday morning, around 6 a.m., the suspect allegedly called Theo to tell him that Justine had gone to a boy’s house.

At the same time, Lucas L. would have taken his car to pick up a young woman who would then have ended the evening with him. However, around 8:30 a.m., the young man left the room he shared with her and did not return until around 11:20 a.m. According France infoLucas L. would also have sent a message on Instagram to the victim to tell him that we were worried about her, thus preparing his alibi.

Arrested, the suspect confesses and delivers his version

Finally, Tuesday, October 25, 48 hours after the report of the disappearance of Justine to the police, Lucas L. is arrested, imprisoned and prosecuted for rape, forcible confinement and murder. The young farmer admits “having killed the victim when they were both at his home and had just had consensual sex” by hitting him with a “punch, which would have caused the death” of the young woman, and having used an “agricultural machine” to “bury the body” in the forest. The search teams quickly find the body of the young woman in a wood, on the indications of the suspect.

But Lucas L.’s version is undermined by the autopsy, the first elements of which were revealed on Monday, October 31, revealing that the young woman was struck several times and strangled. Investigators are now awaiting the results of the victim’s toxicological analyzes to try to find out if Justine was drugged and if the murder was premeditated. In which case the suspect would incur life imprisonment.
