Superstar David Bowie would have turned 75. The Federal Ministry of Finance is issuing a special postage stamp in his honor.

British superstar David Bowie (1947-2016) would have turned 75 on Saturday (January 8). The Federal Ministry of Finance is issuing a special postage stamp in his honor. It shows a black and white photo of the musician with guitar in hand in front of a red, yellow and blue background. The stamp, which was issued on Monday (January 3rd), has a value of 85 cents.

“David Bowie […] was one of the most versatile and influential pop musicians of the 20th century “, it says in the declaration. And further: “His work and his cross-generational influence as well as his fearless innovations will live on forever.”

His last studio album “Blackstar” was released on his 69th birthday, January 8th, 2016. Two days later, the native of London died in New York City.

More special stamps for January

In addition to Bowie, the Federal Ministry of Finance also issued special stamps in January on the occasion of the 150th birthday of the politician Otto Braun (1872-1955), the 200th birthday of the archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann (1822-1890) and the 225th birthday of the writer Annette von Droste- Hülshoff (1797-1848).
