Data confiscated from Pirate Party servers – Bavaria

In the course of the investigation into the data leak at the G-7 summit, the public prosecutor’s office confiscated information from two servers belonging to the Pirate Party. The party announced this on Friday and criticized the actions of the Munich II public prosecutor. According to the party, the background is that the publication of the secret documents included the use of a service by the Pirate Party, which allows documents to be shared online publicly and free of charge. So this does not mean that the party is connected to the data leak itself.

“The servers had to be taken off the network and all data released without restriction – or the servers would have been taken,” said the Pirate Party leader, Anne Herpertz. “We can’t understand the severity of this approach. Instead of approaching us, the police put their guns directly to our chests.”

The public prosecutor confirmed the confiscation of data from two servers of the German Pirate Party. It took place on Wednesday based on a court order. The responsible spokeswoman did not comment on the party’s allegations. There were no further confiscations in the course of the investigation.

Last weekend, confidential police documents from the G-7 summit at Schloss Elmau near Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 2015 were published on the Internet. Among the files are several papers that have been declared classified. However, the published information should not have any mission-critical effects on the security of the current G-7 summit in Elmau, which begins this Sunday.
