Whether when shopping, at the doctor’s or in the social networks: Every day, citizens reveal information about themselves and thus produce an ever-increasing amount of data. “As soon as we buy a piece of chewing gum at the gas station, we leave a trace of data,” says Georg Fuchs. He is head of the Big Data Analytics business unit at the Fraunhofer Institute for Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems, IAIS for short, in Sankt Augustin (North Rhine-Westphalia). “In more and more areas of life we can access data and generate knowledge from it.”
