Nine months after the death of his beloved wife, Damian Lewis commemorated Helen McCrory in a public event. In the presence of their children, he read a poem.

It has been nine months since Damian Lewis lost the love of his life: his wife Helen McCrory died of breast cancer. She was only 52 years old. And Lewis suddenly found himself alone. Not including the woman he has been happily married to since 2007, the mother of his daughter Manon and son Gulliver.

The actor bid farewell to his wife at the annual Night of Poetry at the National Theater in London on Tuesday night. There was a video of McCrory showing poetry at the event last year.

Damian Lewis performed poetry this year and had invited some of his late wife’s colleagues and friends to do so. The two children were also present and witnessed a moving reading: Damian Lewis remembered his “perfect Helen”: “This evening is dedicated to her and it is perfect because Helen loved the National Theater,” said the 50-year-old.

Lewis himself read the final verses of Irish poet Derek Mahon’s poem Everything Is Going To Be All Right. The forgiving lines show that the actor is now doing much better than nine months ago. Just two days after his wife’s death, Lewis wrote a moving suicide note that The Sunday Times reprinted.

Damian Lewis is best known for his role on the series Homeland, where he plays a US Marine who is a prisoner of war, Nicholas Brody, who falls in love with and has a child with agent Carrie Mathison, played by Claire Danes. He was also seen in the crime series “Life” and in the multi-part literary adaptation “Wolves”, where he played the English King Henry VIII.

Helen McCrory’s most famous role was as Narcissa Malfoy in several Harry Potter films. She also played first lady Cherie Blair in the Oscar-winning film “The Queen” and appeared as a minister in “James Bond: Skyfall”.
