Like thousands of others, Nilofar Mukdad is stuck in Kabul, the way to the airport is blocked. Only those who can show a certificate stating that they were a local employee can hope for a place on the plane. However, Nilofar Mukdad was not an assistant to the Western powers. Until Thursday she was a public prosecutor for the Afghan government. But not only that: “She helped women in difficult situations and trained young girls so that they could stand with two legs for once,” says Mayla Mukdad, who has lived in Dachau for around 20 years. In Afghanistan this is anything but a matter of course. This is now Nilofar Mukdad’s undoing. Confident women like her do not appreciate the Taliban.
