Cum-Ex: Hanno Berger sentenced again – economy

The district court of Wiesbaden sentenced Hanno Berger to eight years and three months in prison. The court thus largely followed the demands of the public prosecutor’s office. This had accused Berger of serious tax evasion in a total of three cases and demanded a prison sentence of ten years and six months for her plea. Among other things, she stated that the three offenses caused by so-called “cum-ex transactions” in the years 2006 to 2008 caused damage of 113 million euros at the expense of the tax authorities. Berger’s lawyers had pleaded for an acquittal. The verdict is not yet legally binding. It is considered likely that Berger will appeal, as in a previous judgment.
