Crystal Cabin Award 2024: Eight innovations improve flying

Often it is only small improvements in the interior of aircraft that also have a positive impact on economy class travelers: As part of the Aircraft Interiors Expo trade fair, which takes place every year in Hamburg, the coveted awards for innovations in the industry are presented: the Crystal Cabin Award (CCA).

At a ceremony in the trading hall of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, the finalists in the eight different categories were presented, three each in the categories of cabin systems, passenger comfort, sustainable cabin, health and safety, digitalization, cabin concepts, materials and components and university.

This year there were 80 submissions. All proposals share the vision of making air travel more connected, comfortable, sustainable and accessible in the future. In the last round there were 25 innovations from manufacturers, suppliers, airlines and universities from all over the world, which were evaluated by a 28-member jury of experts.

“And the winner is…”

The shortlist included, for example, the Airspace Cabin cabin concept from Airbus, a seatbelt with integrated airbag and fold-up seats in economy class that create space for wheelchairs in which passengers with disabilities can also sit during the flight. But in the end there was only one winner per category of the prize organized by Hamburg Aviation.

During the gala dinner and a ceremony lasting several hours, the envelopes containing the names of the winners were opened. Eight times, “and the winner is” was said: The Crystal Cabin Award 2024 goes to Safran Cabin, Accenture GmbH, Thales Avionics, Factorydesign, Collins Aerospace and Tongji University. The German company Diehl Aviation, which was awarded two ideas – in the categories Passenger Comfort and Sustainable Cabin.
