When the Bundestag discussed almost two and a half decades ago, at that time still in Bonn, whether a European currency should be created, Helmut Kohl and his Finance Minister Theo Waigel spoke of the “House of Europe” that had to be built. A new room was occupied in this house at the beginning of 2023: In Croatia, as in 19 other EU countries, the euro will be used to pay in the future – and that’s good news.
