Health Minister Lauterbach hides the topic of care for the elderly, criticizes the Patient Protection Foundation. Demand-oriented personnel keys are not only necessary for nursing. The Greens are calling for nurses to have a say.

The German Foundation for Patient Protection has accused Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach of neglecting elderly care: “Lauterbach ignores elderly care. When he talks about care, he only looks at the hospitals,” said foundation board member Eugen Brysch to the “Bild am Sonntag” newspaper.

Brysch criticized the fact that the Federal Ministry of Health is only planning needs-based staffing ratios for nursing. The fact that care for the elderly is left out is “completely incomprehensible” to him. Those in need of care and the nursing staff are the ones who suffer. The health department is “resistant to advice on this point, even with overwhelming, exploding costs,” says Brysch.

The care policy spokeswoman for the Greens in the Bundestag, Kordula Schulz-Asche, called for more say for the caregivers in the newspaper. “We will only be able to master the challenges in care through appropriate representation of nursing, which is committed to better working conditions and the upgrading of the job profile,” she explained, according to “Bild am Sonntag”.
