Crimes around Nuremberg Central Station: 13 young men arrested – Bavaria

Bodily harm, robbery, drugs and theft – the police and public prosecutor’s office have arrested 13 young men who are said to have committed numerous crimes around Nuremberg Central Station. The investigators say the suspects, aged between 17 and 27, are accused of 70 crimes in May and June alone. Investigations are still ongoing against a further 20 suspects.

According to the police, the men lived in various shared accommodations throughout northern Bavaria and could be responsible for further crimes in the state. In the crimes in Nuremberg, the suspects are said to have been travelling in larger groups of varying composition, but also alone. The police therefore do not assume that there are any established gang structures, said a spokesman for the SZ. The suspects were arrested individually after committing various crimes and not, as in other cases, in a concerted operation at the same time.

All of the men are people who have previously come to the attention of the police. They are said to have committed property crimes, i.e. stolen and robbed victims. This resulted in physical assaults and injuries.

According to the investigation, the men committed the alleged crimes around the main train station, the Plärrer local and road traffic junction and at Frauentorgraben. Nuremberg’s main train station has long been considered a crime hotspot. Additional police patrols and more video surveillance are now intended to ensure greater security there.

In the spring, the police had noted a further, according to the spokesman, “severe” increase in crimes in the area, in addition to the already high numbers. The victims gave consistent descriptions of the suspects, whereupon the police set up an investigative commission. Based on the results of the investigation and the increased police presence, a massive decline in crimes such as assault and theft has now been recorded, the police and public prosecutor’s office said. The numbers have returned to the most recent normal level, said the police spokesman.
