After shots were fired on the premises of a petrol station in A suspect was arrested in Merseburg in Saxony-Anhalt on Wednesday evening. There were three injured, including one seriously, said a police spokeswoman.

The public prosecutor’s office assumes that the crime was committed within the family. The perpetrator and victim knew each other, said a spokeswoman for the Halle public prosecutor’s office. On Wednesday evening, the police had already described a connection to the European Championship match between the German national football team and Hungary, which was taking place at the same time, as unlikely. The suspected perpetrator is in custody, and an application for his arrest is currently being examined.

The investigation into the background of the crime in Merseburg-Meuschau is still ongoing. Forensic scientists secured evidence. No further information would be given at this time, according to a police statement late in the evening. According to a report in the “Mitteldeutsche Zeitung”, the gas station is located on the B181. Merseburg is in southern Saxony-Anhalt.
