Videos from a surveillance camera show a young woman getting into a dark vehicle in Aalborg, after which there is no trace of her. Now there are two arrests – and a sad certainty.

Sad certainty in Denmark: A 22-year-old missing for days is dead.

After forensic examinations it was confirmed that the woman had been found dead in a forest near Aalborg, the North Jutland police said on Saturday. The relatives have been informed. Two 36-year-old men were arrested, both of whom have pleaded innocent.

Investigators found body parts in the Dronninglund Storskov forest on Thursday. Even at that point, they suspected that it was the remains of the young woman. She has now been definitively identified by forensic medicine.

22-year-old Mia Skadhauge Stevn was on her way home from a street lined with pubs and discos in Aalborg last Sunday morning. According to surveillance camera footage, she climbed into a dark vehicle nearby. Since then there has been no trace of her.

The police assume that she fell victim to a gruesome crime. The case caused great shock in Denmark. The two 36-year-old arrested are accused of having killed the young woman. One is being held in custody while the other has been released.
