Ferrari has become a victim of cyber criminals. They demand a ransom for stolen customer information. But the luxury car manufacturer is opposed – and does not want to provide any incentives for further attacks.

The Italian luxury car manufacturer Ferrari has been attacked by hackers. The company recently received a ransom note for customer contact information, Ferrari said in a statement Monday night.

After receiving the ransom demand, the group, based in Maranello in northern Italy, immediately commissioned a “leading global cyber security company” to investigate and informed the responsible security authorities. One is confident that the authorities “will do everything in their power to carry out their investigations”. The attack had no impact on business operations, it said.

Ferrari, the group said, would not respond to ransom demands because “agreement to such demands would fund criminal activity and allow the perpetrators to continue their attacks.” The customers were informed about the possible danger of their personal data.
