Kottbusser Tor in Kreuzberg is one of Berlin’s crime hotspots. Was a 26-year-old killed in the subway station there?

At the Kottbusser Tor underground station in A dead man has been found in Berlin-Kreuzberg. The police assume that it was a homicide. According to investigations to date, the 26-year-old was attacked by a group of people on the U8 platform and fatally injured, police and prosecutors said.

A homicide squad is investigating the background. The dead man was found on an intermediate deck of the subway station at around 1 p.m. The “Tagesspiegel” newspaper reported that the man had been stabbed. The police spokeswoman did not provide any information on this. The subway station was temporarily closed because of the investigation. The police are now looking for witnesses who may have seen something that is related to the death of the 26-year-old.

The Berlin Transport Company (BVG) announced that the U1 and U3 lines on the elevated railway and the U8 underground line will pass through the station without stopping.

Kottbusser Tor has been a well-known nightlife spot for decades – but also notorious for street crime and drug trafficking. In February 2023, a new police station was set up on the first floor of a high-rise building directly above the street. The location is controversial, left-wing and left-wing radical groups have protested. According to Interior Senator Iris Spranger (SPD), there has been positive feedback from business people and residents.
