Cybercrime is becoming more and more part of everyday life. After the corona pandemic, BKA President Holger Münch now sees a new catalyst for cybercrime.

BKA President Holger Münch warns of an increase in cybercrime as a result of the war in Ukraine. “This war is also being waged in digital space,” said Münch at the fall conference of the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) in Wiesbaden.

The boundaries between criminal and possibly state-controlled cyber groups are blurring. There is a risk that the cyber attacks will also affect states that are not at war.

The consequences of the war for cybercrime cannot yet be conclusively assessed, explained the BKA President. But it is already clear: “The war has the potential to serve as a further catalyst for cybercrime after the corona pandemic.”
