A perpetrator shoots with a submachine gun in a shisha bar in Göppingen. One man dies and two other men are critically injured. The victims are Syrians.
After the fatal shots in a shisha bar in The perpetrator is still on the run in Göppingen. This was said by a police spokesman. The police have so far ruled out any danger to the population from the shooter. The police and public prosecutor’s office announced a press release on the status of the investigation. According to initial information from security circles, the victims are Syrians.
Shots from submachine guns
The shots were probably fired from a submachine gun. Security circles informed the German Press Agency of this. “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” and “Stuttgarter Zeitung” had previously reported on the type of weapon.
There was a shooting in the bar on Thursday night: A 29-year-old was fatally injured and died shortly afterwards, the police and the public prosecutor announced. Two other men were shot and taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. A special commission called “Kurz” was set up. “Kurz” is the German translation of the bar’s foreign name, said a police spokesman.
It must be examined whether there is a connection to the clashes between rival gangs in the greater Stuttgart area. In the bloody feud between the rival groups, people have been shot at since the summer of 2022, and a hand grenade also exploded. However, the number of incidents has decreased significantly in recent months.
Union sees change in security situation
According to the German Police Union, the incident in Göppingen shows “how dramatically the security situation is changing in Baden-Württemberg.” State chief Ralf Kusterer said in Stuttgart that the case, which almost resembled an execution, naturally had a strong impact on the public. “But the fact is that we have more and more homicides and a further increase in the spiral of violence.”
With a view to the conflicts between gangs in the greater Stuttgart and Göppingen area, the trade unionist warned that a development like that in Scandinavia or other countries with high levels of gang crime would occur. “The situation is serious. Unfortunately, I don’t have the impression that the Interior Ministry and the Interior Minister have this in mind so drastically.”
The suspected shooter is said to be dressed in black and around 18 to 24 years old, and he fled towards the train station. A large contingent of police and a helicopter was used to search for him after the crime – in vain. The Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office (LKA) is involved in the investigation.
