Brazil is one of the countries with the most corona deaths – among other things because of the very subdued progress in vaccination. Pfizer now wants to vaccinate a complete site with Biontech for a comprehensive Covid-19 study.

In the southwestern Brazilian city of Toledo, around 98 percent of residents of vaccinable age have already received at least one dose of a Covid vaccine. Most received the vaccine from Biontech-Pfizer. Now the drug manufacturer has announced that it intends to fully vaccinate every resident in Toledo who is over twelve years old in order to enable a study on the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine.

So far 600,000 deaths in Brazil related to Corona

The company will work with local health authorities, a hospital, a university and Brazil’s national vaccination program to monitor the transmission of the coronavirus in a “real world scenario” after vaccinating the entire population with the Biontech Pfizer serum, like the one Pfizer company is quoted by the “New York Times”.

The study will accompany the participants for up to a year to examine how long the vaccination protection against Covid-19 and against new virus variants lasts. “Here we believe in science and regret the almost 600,000 deaths from Covid-19 in Brazil,” said Toledo Mayor Beto Lunitti when announcing the Pfizer study, as the New York Times reported. The study is the second step behind the experimental vaccination of almost every adult in the southeast Brazilian city of Serrana.

Serrana experiment

The Serrana experiment was considered the first mass study ever to vaccinate an entire city against the coronavirus before the rest of the country. It was carried out over three months in winter and spring. The Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine was tested here. The study was a resounding success, with steep declines in new cases, hospital admissions and deaths at a time when the rest of Brazil was almost completely hit by the pandemic.

Doctor is said to have injected Covid vaccinations without a vaccine - patients are stunned

Brazil is one of the countries with the highest number of corona deaths. Around 600,000 people have died there of Covid-19 so far. Although many experts believe the real death toll could be much higher, it is the second highest death toll in the world. Only in the USA did more people die.

Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro, meanwhile, again expressed reluctance to the importance of vaccines. As a result, many, many Brazilians expressed their anger over how painfully slow their government had been to procure vaccines in the past.
