Watch the video: Couple escapes city life – and builds a yurt in the middle of the desert.

Whitney and Trent Newkirk are fed up with city life. The couple from the US state of Wisconsin bought a piece of land in the California desert and now live independently in a yurt. Whitney records for her followers how the construction of the yurt went and what her life in the desert looks like.

Bye-bye to big city life.

A Wisconsin couple decides to leave the city behind.

Whitney and Trent Newkirk are buying a 6-acre piece of land for $8,000 in March 2021 in the middle of the desert in Joshua Tree National Park, California.

The couple also bought a $20,000 custom-made yurt, built it themselves and invested in a 9,500-litre water tank.
They get their electricity from solar panels and have a home biogas system that uses food and even human waste to create gas. With it you can cook with your deep fryer or stove.

Trent, 26, works from home as a mechanical engineer. And 33-year-old Whitney documents her life in the eco-yurt for her followers on Instagram, Tiktok and Co.
Magical landscapes, but not a soul far and wide. Doesn’t the couple feel lonely in the desert?
“I don’t miss civilization. I love people, but I don’t like big crowds. Now we just feel so much more free financially and closer to nature.” Whitney Newkirk tells SWNS.

Of course, the couple also has to deal with small and large problems around the yurt, but there is no view like this in the city.
