Costume and reality – Bavaria

Disguises are all the rage right now. That’s because of the season some call “the foolish one” – as if humanity were sane the rest of the year. But many also dress up for other occasions. There was the legendary appearance of the mask millionaire Andrea Tandler in court: baseball cap, sunglasses, FFP2 mask and a garishly colorful scarf. It was about 48 million euros commission for a Corona mask deal. She got away with it at the time, but now she’s in custody on charges of tax evasion in the deal. There may also be subsidy fraud, it is said, because of unlawfully collected Corona support. One can only say: Respect! If that’s true, nothing has been left out here.

The ultimate consequence, however, is missing for many from state politics. From the Veitshöchheimer Fastnacht we know that Markus Söder is not only a passionate self-promoter, but also likes to embody other characters. This time he was said to be the “father of the Bavarians”. So please, don’t be modest! That was Moses leading his people to the Promised Land. The Bavarians seem to be a nomadic people, because the state-owned Bayernheim practically does not build any apartments, as we now know. And then such a journey can take a while if the connections are bad. But a clever tribal leader does not want to discourage his followers, which is why in real life Söder preferred not to tell anyone about the delay in the construction of the Munich main line until 2034.

The urge for greater importance was also noticeable in other costumes. However, desire and reality rarely go together; certainly not with the green management duo. Ludwig Hartmann as the Bavarian lion was more like the horror clown Pennywise. And Katharina Schulze as Bavaria didn’t look like the allegory of Bavaria either, but more like the blonde cracker she likes to be. President of the Landtag Ilse Aigner as Mama Bavaria was more convinced that she would certainly like to pull the ears of her little rascals. SPD leader Florian von Brunn came as a mountaineer. Sisyphus would probably have been a better fit, although according to Albert Camus one has to imagine him as a happy person. But there is still room for improvement for the SPD.
