Coronavirus – FDP wants more free PCR tests – District of Munich

The FDP in the district council wants to make PCR tests easier for everyone. For this purpose, the FDP group has submitted an application for the meeting of the district committee on this Monday and the district council on December 13th, which aims to improve the PCR test offer. “To combat the previous waves, free PCR tests were customary for everyone in the test centers in the district,” argues FDP district councilor Michael Ritz. In the meantime, they are often paid for and are no longer offered by test centers. According to the FDP District Councilor Katharina Diem, the PoC antigen rapid tests offered for all are suspected of “striking very late or not at all in people who have already been vaccinated, although there is a contagious infection”. Thus, even in the current situation, nationwide PCR tests are the more suitable means of breaking the worst corona wave to date.

“We need a reliable test-down immediately,” said a statement from the FDP. This can only be achieved through a comprehensive offer without long distances and without long queues. On the other hand, the PCR test should not fail because of the costs, said Diem. According to the FDP group spokesman Manfred Riederle, the district’s test centers should not exclude fee-based PCR tests or at least offer them cheaply. The district should therefore subsidize these tests.
