Toy manufacturers wanted to show their products in Nuremberg at the beginning of February. But the spread of the new Corona variant destroys that.

Due to the rapid spread of the omicron variant of the corona virus and the associated cancellations by exhibitors, the Nuremberg Toy Fair in the exhibition center has been cancelled.

The organizer, Spielwarenmesse eG, announced on Thursday evening in Nuremberg that the most recent development left no other choice. Alternatively, exhibitors, specialist retailers and media representatives would now meet on the Spielwarenmesse Digital platform. The show, which is considered the world’s leading trade fair, was to take place stationary from February 2nd to 6th.

“We fought hard to hold the face-to-face event and initially received strong support from the global toy markets,” said the spokesman for the board of directors of Spielwarenmesse eG, Christian Ulrich, according to the announcement. The many suppliers without an international sales network in particular had appealed to the organizers in December to hold the trade fair, which is important for their foreign business. In the last few days, however, the general conditions have increasingly deteriorated.

In response to the rapid spread of the Omikron variant, numerous exhibitors had canceled their stands out of concern for the health of their teams, according to Spielwarenmesse eG. To make matters worse, “the fact that an official cancellation, which is possible at any time, means that there is no longer any planning security”.
