Expert warns against using antigen tests for free testing

In the debate about the reliability of antigen tests, one expert warns of false safety through negative test results. “Freestyle testing only with an antigen test is not possible,” said the chairman of the professional association of German laboratory doctors, Andreas Bobrowski, of the German press agency. He referred to plans by the federal government to enable early testing out of quarantine not only with PCR tests, but also with “high quality” antigen tests. Because antigen tests, which include self-tests and rapid tests, often do not work, particularly when the viral load is low, this is a problematic signal, says Bobrowski. The viral load tends to drop quite quickly, especially in Omikron, especially in vaccinated people. While, according to Bobrowski, the PCR tests almost always provide correct results for the detection of corona infections even with a low viral load, the antigen test is correctly positive in asymptomatic courses with a low viral load in only about half of the infected.

Daycare centers in SH: Different quarantine regulations lead to a lack of understanding

For many daycare managers in Schleswig-Holstein and the parents of the children, the current corona situation with the spread of the Omikron variant is causing anger and incomprehension. The reason is the different decisions made from district to district regarding quarantine orders in the case of positive corona cases. It is said that the size of the facility and the age of the children are also decisive. This system is incomprehensible, counter the daycare workers. Many parents want uniform regulations and thus planning security so that they know what to do in the event of a positive test. The daycare centers, in which there is already a personnel emergency in many places, and the parents agree that the daycare centers should be kept open as long as possible.
