Corona summit: The federal and state governments are planning these measures

On Friday, the federal and state governments will discuss tougher corona measures in Germany. In view of the Omikron wave, there should be more 2G and 2G-plus rules, as can be seen from a proposed resolution for the meeting that is available to several media. Access to certain facilities should therefore only be given to those who have been vaccinated and recovered (2G) or those who have been vaccinated and recovered with a booster or test (2G plus).

According to media reports, the draft provides:

  • 2G plus in restaurants, cafés and other catering establishments
  • 2G should continue to apply nationwide (regardless of incidence) in cultural and leisure facilities, including cinemas and theaters, for example
  • Contact restrictions of a maximum of 10 vaccinated or recovered people remain in place
  • FFP2 masks are recommended in shops and public transport
  • If countries make use of the opening clause, clubs and discos should still remain closed

The draft does not provide for a tightening for major events.

Quarantine and isolation

To the Quarantine rule it says in the draft: “In future, those contact persons who show complete vaccination protection through the booster vaccination should be exempt from quarantine”. Boosted contact persons could soon be exempt from the quarantine obligation.

Free testing: After an infection or as a contact person, people can “test themselves” (with proof) after seven days using a PCR or certified rapid antigen test.

Special feature for critical infrastructure staff: After infection, the isolation for the employees should be ended after seven days by an obligatory PCR test if the affected persons were free of symptoms for 48 hours beforehand. In contrast to the Ministry of Health proposal the opportunity to be tested as a contact person after five days.

Special feature for school students: The quarantine should be able to be ended after five days by means of a PCR or rapid antigen test.
