The trend of increasing numbers of new corona infections continues: The Robert Koch Institute was reported to 2400 cases within one day, 481 more than a week ago. The seven-day incidence is now 16.9.

The health authorities in Germany reported 2,400 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute within one day. That comes from the official figures of the RKI from today. A week ago the value for Germany was 1919 infections – an increase of almost 500.

At the beginning of the month, the 7-day average was around 600 cases reported daily. The value has now passed the 2000 mark. According to the RKI, the infection process mainly takes place in the age groups under 35 years of age. This is also evident in the age of the patients admitted to the hospital, as the RKI writes in its current weekly report.

The median age of the Covid patients admitted to the hospital has fallen significantly in recent months. “If the median hospitalized cases were 77 years old at the beginning of the year, the median in calendar week 29 was 47 years.”

Incidence rises to almost 17

The seven-day incidence has been increasing for three and a half weeks. According to the RKI, it was 16.9 – the previous day the value was 16.5, on the Saturday of the previous week it was 13.6.

The seven-day incidence has so far been the basis for many corona restrictions in the pandemic, for example as part of the federal emergency brake that expired at the end of June. In the future, other values such as hospital admissions are to be taken into greater account.

21 more dead

According to the information, 21 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 28 deaths. The RKI has counted 3,769,165 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected.

The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 3,653,300. The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 91,658.
