Corona pandemic: Spahn wants more precise clinic information about patients

Age, type of treatment and vaccination status: In the future, clinics in Germany should report more accurate data on corona patients than before. His ministry wants to submit a new reporting regulation for this, said Minister Spahn.

In the future, hospitals in Germany will have to provide the authorities with more detailed information about the corona cases on their wards. “In future, all Covid patients treated in hospital, their age, the type of treatment and their vaccination status must be reported,” wrote Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn in the short message service Twitter.

In addition to the data on the occupancy of the intensive care units, even better information would be needed on all corona cases treated in the clinics, added a spokesman. Spahn’s ministry wants to present a new reporting ordinance, which should come into force soon. It must be possible to estimate “how high the burden will be on the health system and how well the vaccinations will work,” wrote Spahn.

Detailed information about location in clinics

At the same time, he was confident that the ongoing vaccination campaign will have a positive effect: “Since the risk groups at risk are vaccinated, a high incidence does not automatically mean an equally high level of stress in the intensive care beds.” The incidence is becoming increasingly less meaningful, the minister said. “We now need more detailed information about the situation in the clinics.” Previously, “Bild am Sonntag” reported on Spahn’s plans.

The ministry spokesman has not yet been able to say when exactly the new rules will apply. The regulation will now be launched quickly.

Patient advocate Brysch also calls for transparency

The board of the Patient Protection Foundation, Eugen Brysch, also called for transparency in the information provided by the hospitals. It needs reliable data for the situation on all stations, explained Brysch. This allows the pandemic situation to be assessed better than just looking at the incidence values.

The incidence value alone is no longer sufficient – hospitals should report more data on Covid patients in the future
