The trend of increasing new corona infections in Germany continues. In 1919, the Robert Koch Institute recorded infections within 24 hours. The seven-day incidence also continues to rise.
The seven-day incidence has been rising continuously for two and a half weeks. According to the Robert Koch Institute on Saturday morning, it is 13.6 – the previous day the value was 13.2 and the most recent low on July 6th was 4.9.
In addition, the health authorities in Germany last reported new corona infections to the RKI within one day in 1919. A week ago the value for Germany was 1608 infections.
The incidence has so far been the basis for many corona restrictions in the pandemic, for example as part of the federal emergency brake that expired at the end of June. In the future, other values such as hospital admissions are to be taken into greater account.
According to the new information, 28 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 22 dead. The RKI has counted 3,754,511 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected.
The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 3,644,100. The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 91,520.
Appeals to those unwilling to be vaccinated
In the meantime, more and more appeals are being directed at people who have not yet been vaccinated or who refuse to be vaccinated. Federal Minister of Education Anja Karliczek urged adults to get vaccinated against Corona – also out of solidarity with children and adolescents. “Especially now, when the number of infections is rising again, as far as possible all adults should show solidarity with the children and adolescents, in that non-vaccinated people take advantage of the vaccination offers,” said the CDU politician in the newspapers of the Funke media group. “The solidarity of adults would be a very important contribution to enable regular school operations after the summer vacation.”
Karliczek argued: “No vaccine is approved for younger children, and no vaccination is recommended for children and adolescents aged 12 and over. Therefore, the less the virus circulates among adults, the less it can pose a threat to younger people. Children and adolescents can also become seriously ill, and we still don’t know enough about Long Covid in children and adolescents. ”
Increasing incidence due to returning travelers?
FDP health politician Christine Aschenberg-Dugnus called on the online portal watson to make further efforts in the vaccination campaign: “It must not be forgotten that rural areas and the sometimes long journeys also play a decisive role. That is why vaccination offers must be made to the people in Germany there, where they are. ”
Meanwhile, the chairman of the World Medical Association, Frank Ulrich Montgomery, warned of an increase in the corona incidence due to travelers returning. “Spain and Italy are popular holiday destinations, especially for younger people, who have often not yet been vaccinated twice. The virus entry to Germany from these countries will clearly increase due to the number of people returning,” said Montgomery of the “Rheinische Post”. Montgomery called for consistent quarantine for unvaccinated travelers returning and compliance with the corona rules to ensure that the fourth wave does not turn into a “tsunami”.
SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach also advised caution. “At the moment we have not yet achieved herd immunity, so I advise you to continue to be careful,” Lauterbach told the editorial network in Germany. That also means: “Visiting the discotheque only for people who have been vaccinated, recovered or tested and only with a mask.”
