Corona pandemic: increasing numbers – new measures

Status: 11/22/2021 6:53 a.m.

The RKI reports 30,643 new infections – the incidence has risen again to a new high and is now 386.5. In some federal states, stricter corona measures apply from today, including Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein.

The nationwide seven-day incidence has again reached a high. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week at 386.5. For comparison: the previous day the value was 372.7, a week ago it was 303.0 (previous month: 95.1).

The health authorities in Germany reported 30,643 new corona infections to the RKI within one day. Exactly a week ago there were 23,607 infections.

62 new deaths

According to the new information, 62 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours – in the previous week there were 43. The number of people who died of or involving a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 99,124.

The number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was given by the RKI on Friday at 5.34 (Thursday: 5.30). With the indicator it must be taken into account that hospital admissions are sometimes reported with delay. At the weekend, the so-called hospitalization incidence is not given. The previous high was around 15.5 around Christmas time.

Some federal states tighten measures

In some federal states, stricter corona measures apply from today: Due to the high number of infections, Saxony is closing its leisure facilities, bars and clubs. Christmas markets have been canceled. With a seven-day incidence of 1000 or more, unvaccinated people are subject to a night curfew between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

In Schleswig-Holstein, the 2G rule comes into effect in indoor areas of leisure facilities and restaurants. This means that these can only be visited by those who have been vaccinated or those who have recovered.

There are also curfews for unvaccinated people in areas particularly affected by the pandemic in Baden-Württemberg. As the district office of the Schwarzwald-Baar district announced, non-vaccinated persons are only allowed to leave the apartment between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. for valid reasons. These include, for example, professional activities or the urgent care of animals. The same applies in the Biberach district. In addition, the Ostalbkreis in Baden-Württemberg is one of the areas with the highest number of infections.

Stricter measures in Bavaria

In Bavaria, strict contact restrictions are to apply to unvaccinated people from Wednesday. Clubs and bars also have to close for three weeks, there should be no Christmas markets. The number of spectators is significantly limited for cultural and sporting events.

In addition, the 2G rule applies almost everywhere: with the exception of retail. There is, however, an upper limit of one person per ten square meters of space.

SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach expects similar steps in other federal states. At the weekend, stricter corona rules with 2G requirements came into force in Saarland and Hamburg.
