According to the RKI, the seven-day incidence has risen again and is now 8.0. 1642 new corona cases were recorded within one day. 74 percent of all infections are now due to the delta variant.
The seven-day incidence has risen again. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the value is now 8.0 after 7.1 the previous day. At the latest low on July 6, there were still 4.9 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days.
The health authorities in Germany reported 1,642 new corona infections to the RKI within one day, as the data on the RKI dashboard shows. For comparison: a week ago the value was 970 infections.
31 more deaths
According to the information, 32 more deaths related to the corona virus were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 31 dead. This increases the number of people who died with or with the involvement of a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 to 91,319.
The RKI has counted 3,740,325 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not recognized. The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 3,637,400.
Delta share rises to 74 percent
The delta variant of the coronavirus is also increasingly dominating in Germany. It now accounts for 74 percent of the samples examined, according to an RKI report with a view to the week up to July 4th. In the previous weeks, the delta share had increased from 18 to 39 and then to 60 percent.
This trend so far suggests that an even larger proportion of cases this week will be caused by Delta. According to the report, infections with the previously predominant alpha variant decreased very quickly in the past few weeks, to around 22 percent. Other variants classified as worrying continue to play a subordinate role in Germany.
Every tenth Delta case after a trip abroad
Delta infections in connection with trips to popular holiday destinations were also reported according to the RKI. In every tenth Delta case reported from the federal states, there was information about a possible connection with trips abroad, a constant proportion compared to the previous week, as the RKI reports. Among the three most mentioned countries are the popular travel destinations Spain (157 cases) and Portugal (32).
The Delta variant, which was first discovered in India, is considered to be significantly more contagious than previous forms of the virus. In several other countries, it has massively increased the number of infections. According to the RKI, laboratory experiments indicate that those who have been completely vaccinated have a high level of protection against severe disease even with Delta.
The RKI also takes this into account in its risk assessment: For fully vaccinated people, the risk to health is assessed as moderate – for non-vaccinated or incompletely vaccinated people, it is high.
Delta up to 100 percent more contagious
In the so-called virus variant report, a significantly higher reproduction number is estimated for the delta variant of the virus than for alpha. Since the week of June 7th to 13th, this R value for Delta has been 20 to 100 percent higher than for the previous version, it said. According to the RKI, the estimate has so far been fraught with uncertainty due to the low number of cases.
According to RKI data, the R value nationwide is currently 1.18 and has been above the value of one for more than a week. This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 118 more people. If the value is consistently above one, the number of cases increases; if it is below one for a long time, the infection rate subsides.
