Omikron is the dominant Corona variant in Denmark – the number of new infections is high. This is now also affecting the celebrations for Crown Princess Mary’s 50th birthday.

The celebrations for the 50th birthday of Denmark’s Crown Princess Mary will be smaller than planned at the beginning of February due to the corona.

A festive dinner on the eve of the birthday at Rosenborg Castle is canceled, as the Danish royal family announced on Friday. This was decided by Queen Margrethe II (81) and Mary together. In addition to the royal family, political representatives also took part at the table.

The reason for the decision is the current corona situation in the country and the associated uncertainty as to how the whole thing will develop, the court explained. A planned birthday party of the Mary Fonden foundation named after Mary is to be rescheduled for later in the year. The actual birthday of the Australian-born wife of the heir to the throne, Crown Prince Frederik (53), on February 5, is therefore celebrated exclusively in private.
