Birth rate down since early 2022
The number of births per woman in Germany has fallen since the beginning of the year as a result of the corona crisis. It fell well below the level of previous years, as the Federal Institute for Population Research (BiB) announced on Tuesday. Accordingly, the value between 2015 and 2021 was still between 1.5 and 1.6 children per woman. At the beginning of 2022 it fell to 1.3 to 1.4. The statisticians cited the fact that when the vaccination campaign began in spring 2021, many women initially postponed their desire to have children because vaccination for pregnant women was not recommended at the time. From March there was a slight increase in the birth rate to 1.48 children per woman, which the researchers interpreted as the end of this delay.

Demand for corona vaccinations is increasing
The demand for corona vaccinations is increasing in Germany. “The new option to order the BA.1 vaccine has led to orders six times higher than in the previous weeks,” said Thomas Preis, head of the North Rhine pharmacists’ association, of the “Rheinische Post” according to the preliminary report. The really big run on the vaccine has so far not materialized in medical practices and pharmacies. The subdued demand is also due to the lack of a recommendation from the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko). A recommendation from Stiko for the Omikron variants BA.1 and BA.5 is expected shortly.

RKI reports 1,113 new corona infections in Hamburg
In Hamburg, the seven-day incidence of new corona infections rose to 166.3 – this was reported by the Robert Koch Institute this morning. It is the lowest nationwide. 6,267 new infections in Lower Saxony
According to the Robert Koch Institute, 6,267 further corona cases have been reported in the state of Lower Saxony. The seven-day incidence of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants is currently 304.0 – and thus slightly higher than yesterday (294.9). A week ago it was 291.7. In addition, 16 other deaths were reported.

RKI: 60,237 new corona infections – incidence rises to 259.0
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the nationwide seven-day incidence on Tuesday as 259.0. The day before, the value of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week was 243.3 (previous week: 229.9; previous month: 302.9). The health authorities in Germany reported 60,237 new corona infections (previous week: 54,930) and 146 deaths (previous week: 90) to the RKI within one day.
Note on the current numbers: The incidence values do not provide a complete picture of the infection situation. Experts assume a high number of cases not recorded by the RKI – mainly because not all infected people have a PCR test done. However, only positive PCR tests are included in the official statistics. In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values. In general, the number of new infections registered varies significantly from weekday to weekday, since many federal states do not transmit them to the RKI, especially at weekends, and report their cases later in the week.
